Thousands of students applying for educational cash assistance from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) were seen lining up at 11 p.m. Friday till Saturday dawn outside the Provincial Capitol Gymnasium in the City of Malolos, Bulacan.
The Bulacan Provincial Social Welfare and Development (PSWD) headed by Rowena Joson-Tiongson validated the documents of some 7,0000 students who trooped to the site to avail of DSWD’s Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS).
Gov. Daniel R. Fernando said that as directed by DSWD Secretary Erwin Tulfo, the agency will have to prioritize the needy and vowed to finish the long queue of people.
Fernando and Tiongson were with DSWD Region 3 officer-in-charge Venus F. Rebuldela during the launch of the cash assistance program which aims to help indigent students nationwide for the School Year 2022-2023.
Tulfo earlier announced that the distribution of educational assistance under DSWD's AICS program started today, Aug.20, and will be held every Saturday until Sept. 24, 2022.
Under the AICS program, Tiongson said, qualified beneficiaries are breadwinner students, working students, those presently living with relatives, students with jobless parents and solo parents, and children of Overseas Filipino Workers and other indigent families.
