TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan – New African Swine Fever (ASF) cases have been reported in Claveria and Baggao, this province, monitoring and surveillance conducted by the Provincial Veterinary Office (PVET) said.

Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Noli Buen said 27 pigs were culled in three barangays in Claveria – 22 in San Isidro, Buenavista, four; and Union, one. Seven hog raisers were affected.

Two pigs from a hog raiser in Taytay, Baggao were culled and buried.

Buen said PVET will continue its monitoring, surveillance, or blood collection for ASF-positive swine in these areas.

Pigs that tested positive for ASF in neighboring places will be subjected to culling.

The PVET team, which includes technical personnel from the Department of Agriculture (DA) Region 2 and the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) Central Office, are still in Claveria, Baggao, and Sanchez Mira to check other hog raisers.

“On going at abala ang team natin sa Sanchez Mira, Claveria, at Baggao dahil sa mayroong kaso ng ASF dito with the technical personnel ng DA at BAI. Magbibigay pa rin tayo ng assistance sa mga affected farmers or hog raisers pero hindi ito agad-agad dahil may proseso tayong sinusunod (Our team with DA and BAI technical personnel is in Sanchez Mira, Claveria, and Baggao where ASF has been detected. We are giving assistance to affected hog farmers but this won’t be immediate as we have to follow the process),” said Buen.

The Provincial Government of Cagayan (PGC) has been providing P3,000 financial aid to affected hog raisers under the "No Barangay Left Behind" of Gov. Manuel N. Mamba.
