Malacanang cites BIR anew for 'swift' resolution of tax complaints

The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) was commended anew by Malacanang for swiftly solving all 176 citizen complaints and queries that the latter referred to it back in June.

It was the second citation received by the bureau from the Office of the President's 8888 Citizens Complaint Center for this year.

Last month, the complaint center also commended the BIR for a 100-percent resolution to 570 cases it forwarded for the first five months of the year, or a total of 676 cases solved for the first semester.

"We would like to commend BIR's efforts in ensuring that all concerns referred to your office are acted upon on time," the complaint office stated.

BIR Commissioner Lilia Catris Guillermo stated she will "utilize these complaints and concerns as valuable feedback to further improve our services to taxpayers."

Most of the complaints concern red tape, or delay in the release of documents sought by taxpayers.
