DOLE, DOT join forces to create more jobs in tourism sector

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) has started collaborating with the Department of Tourism (DOT) to come up with programs and projects that will generate more jobs in the country.

For a start, Labor Secretary Bienvenido Laguesma said they will work to accommodate more job-seekers after they received several reports from the tourism stakeholders especially hotel establishments are in need of workforces.

He said the collaboration will involve the holding of job fairs in various parts of the country in coordination with the regional offices of DOLE, the DOT and local government units (LGUs).

“It will be a series of job fairs to be held in various cities and provinces with initial focus in Metro Manila, Cebu and Davao,” said Laguesma, noting that a memorandum of understanding (MOU) will be issued to formalize their partnership with the DOT.

Dubbed as ‘Trabaho Turismo Asenso’, the project is set to be launched on September 22-24.

“What we’re about to undertake aims to support the government’s economic recovery program by providing a platform for job seekers for job opportunities in various tourism sectors and allied services,” Laguesma ended.

As of May this year, the Philippine Statistics Authority reported that there were 2.93 jobless Filipinos. (Jun Marcos Tadios)
