Man in critical condition after jumping onto rushing LRT-1 train in Caloocan City

A man is in critical condition after he was ran over by a train at the Light Rail Transit (LRT-1) Monumento Station in Caloocan City early Wednesday morning, Aug. 17.

The Caloocan City Police Station (CCPS) East Grace Park Substation (SS2) identified the victim as Georick John San Juan, 31, from Bulacan.

M/Sgt. Julius Mabasa of the SS2, investigator on case, said that the victim jumped into the tracks when the train bound for Balintawak was approaching the station at around 4:45 a.m.

San Juan’s right foot was detached from his body. He was rushed to the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) by the rescue team of Caloocan City for immediate treatment.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) said that its operations and security teams immediately responded to the incident.

The LRT-1 operations were also limited from Baclaran to Blumentritt and vice-versa.

“Upon seeing that the passenger was conscious, the LRMC team, together with the Caloocan local government unit, pulled out the passenger from the tracks and brought him to a nearby Caloocan hospital for medical examination and treatment,” it said.

The LRMC added that the normal operations of the LRT-1 line from Baclaran to Balintawak resumed at around 5:59 a.m.

“As LRMC remains steadfast in providing a safe and reliable transportation, we appeal to the riding public to follow the rules and regulations implemented in LRT-1 premises. We reserve the right to deny entry to individuals who pose safety and security risk,” it said.

Mabasa said that they will notify the family of the victim about the incident. The case is still under investigation.
