Cebu island tops Western Visayas in dengue cases with 11,403 infections, 72 deaths – DOH


CEBU CITY – Dengue cases in Central Visayas continue to rise with most cases recorded in Cebu island, the Department of Health-Central Visayas (DOH 7) reported.

The DOH 7 reported that as of August 13, Region 7 has 11,403 confirmed dengue cases with 72 deaths.

The DOH 7 said that 74 percent of the total number of confirmed dengue cases is in Cebu island.

Cebu province has 4,457 cases with 27 mortalities.

Cebu City recorded 2,086 cases with 25 deaths.

Lapu-Lapu City had 1,244 cases with 10 deaths while 621 cases and four fatalities have been recorded in Mandaue City.

Siquijor has the lowest number of dengue cases in the region with 90 and zero deaths.

As dengue cases continue to rise, the DOH 7 reiterated its call to the public to strictly practice anti-dengue measures.

The DOH 7 reminded that surroundings should be free from stagnant water that could become the breeding ground of dengue-carrying mosquitoes.

The DOH 7 has said that dengue cases are expected to rise this year, considered a dengue epidemic year.

It has been observed that dengue cases rise every three years, the Health agency said.
