12-year-old goes missing after swimming in QC creek

A 12-year-old boy was reported missing after he went swimming with his friends in a creek in Barangay Pinyahan, Quezon City on Monday, Aug. 15.

In a GMA News report on Tuesday, Aug. 16, members of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) were conducting search and retrieval operations for the boy, identified as Prince Kian Flores, after he failed to reach the riverbanks during a heavy downpour. The victim and his friends went to the creek at around 2 p.m.

According to the report, the grandmother of Flores said one of Flores' friends saw him having what appeared to be an epileptic seizure before he was swept by the current.

The PCG searched the creeks and rivers in the city for Flores.

The operation was halted on Monday evening and was resumed on Tuesday morning, the report said.

It added that according to the PCG, the search and retrieval operations were being hampered by the amount of garbage in the creeks and other tributaries.
