DPWH: Ilocos Sur road section yet to be cleared due to land, rockslides

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union – The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Ilocos Sur 2nd District Engineering Office (DEO) has yet to fully clear the Junction Candon-Salcedo-Del Pilar Road due to continuous rain that triggers land and rockslides.

The Ilocos Sur 2nd DEO said Monday, August 15, that Kilometer 362+930 is still closed to traffic due to land and rockslides.

It is exerting all efforts to open the road section together with Ilocos Sur 1st DEO equipment and the local government units of Salcedo and Gregorio del Pilar.

There is no alternate route since San Emilio-Del Pilar Road is also closed due to intermittent land and rockslides in the area despite simultaneous clearing operations.

The La Union 2nd DEO said that the San Luis Bridge 2 on the Rosario-Pugo Road is passable only for vehicles of up to 10 tons.

Travelers using vehicles above 10 tons may take Manila North Road/Agoo-Baguio City Road and vice versa.

The La Union 2nd DEO is monitoring the damaged bridge and coordinating with the LGUs of Pugo and Rosario, La Union for load limit restriction implementation and traffic control.

The Pangasinan 2nd DEO said the Dawel Bridge on the Dagupan-Bonuan-San Fabian Road is passable only for vehicles of up to five tons.

Vehicles above that weight may take the Pangasinan-La Union Interprovincial Road (Dagupan-Mangaldan Road Section) and vice versa.

A joint team from the Pangasinan 2nd DEO and Dagupan City POSO is manning and controlling the area round-the-clock for a smooth flow of traffic.

Commuters were advised to take precautionary measures while traversing national roads and bridges affected by the July 27 earthquake.
