ILOILO CITY — The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) has launched a mascot called the "Pinas: Basura Buster" (PBB) to strengthen the waste management campaign in Western Visayas.

DENR Assistant Secretary Daniel Darius Nicer said the PBB campaign is targeting the youth in helping implement the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.

“Reuse, reduce, recycle,” Nicer urged the youth during the regional launching here last August 12, which coincided with International Youth Day.

The PBB is the brainchild of the DENR Strategic Communication and Initiatives Service. It was initially launched last October with the DENR Environmental Management Bureau.

After its regional launching, the PBB is set to go to various educational campaigns in schools in Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Negros Occidental as well as the highly urbanized cities of Iloilo and Bacolod.

The DENR will partner with the Department of Education (DepEd) and various local government units (LGUs) for the educational campaigns.
