Comelec welcomes nomination of Celis as commissioner


The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday, August 15, welcomed the nomination of Nelson Java Celis as poll commissioner.

Comelec Acting Spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said Chairman George Erwin M. Garcia, together with Commissioners Socorro B. Inting, Marlon S. Casquejo, Aimee P. Ferolino and Rey E. Bulay, looks forward to working with Celis who is a veteran Information Technology Expert Practitioner and Academician.

"We sincerely believe that his expertise and long experience in Information Technology will immensely benefit the Comelec and further enhance the automation of our electoral processes," he said in a statement.

"We hope for the confirmation of his Nomination via Regular Appointment, so that Commission en banc, with him on board, can chart the future of automated elections in the Philippines," added Laudiangco.

Celis has been nominated by Malacañang as Comelec Commissioner to serve the unexpired term of former Commissioner Aimee Neri until February 2029.
