Social media influencer Donnalyn Bartolome trended on social media after she released a video of her birthday celebration with a different concept.
On Facebook, Donnalyn described her birthday party on July 9 as "Kanto Birthday Party" where she celebrated her birthday the hard way. The vlog of her birthday party, released on Aug. 11, has been viewed more than 4.4 million times, as of Aug. 15.
She relived those days when she couldn't afford to buy new clothes, slippers, and even good food. Her close friends from the past joined her in celebrating her birthday.
Donnalyn's full post on Facebook:
"THANK YOU FOR MAKING US #1 TRENDING ON ITS FIRST DAY!! Pinakasimple pero pinakamasayang birthday ko. My Kanto Birthday Party is not just a concept, this was my life when I left home abroad where my life was comfortable.
"Pero hindi mo maaabot pangarap mo sa pagiging komportable lagi. Kaya nung umalis ako saamin to work here sa Pinas, hindi ko inaasahan, kahit mahirap, isa siya sa adventure ko sa buhay na hindi ko makakalimutan.
"So I relived the times when I was just starting out on my bday last month July 9, just like nung time na walang wala pa ako.. pero nandiyan yung mga taong mahal ako kahit butas butas ang shorts..at murang sapatos at tsinelas lang kaya kong bilihin.
"Ngayon.. mas dumami pa ang nagmamahal saakin kahit ganito mga trip ko.. kayo na mag caption each photo HAHAHAHAHA!!!*May valid reason po yung mga di nakapunta, bawi sila next year

But Donnalyn's birthday party concept received mixed reactions. Some comments:
