BSKE postponement won't lead to wastage, says Garcia

Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman George Garcia has assured the public that no funds will be wasted should the December 2022 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan polls is postponed.

"The people have nothing to worry. No public funds shall be put to waste. Why? Because if we procure ballpens, these will be the same ballpens that will be used in the event that the elections is reset," he said in a statement.

"If we print the ballots for the barangay and SK elections, we shouldn't worry as it has already happened in 2017, when the barangay elections was ordered reset, that we still used the same ballots that have been printed prior to the holding of the elections," added Garcia.

There are three bills filed in both Houses of Congress to move the BSKE either on May 2023, December 2023 or on May 2024.

On Sunday, Garcia revealed that the printing of ballots for the BSKE will start next month.

He said this is to give the poll body enough time not just to print, but to also verify the ballots to be used on the forthcoming polls.
