P10.5 M worth of shabu seized from two suspects nabbed in separate buy-busts in Mandaue City


CEBU CITY -- At least P10.5 million worth of illegal drugs were seized and two drug suspects were arrested in separate buy-bust operations in Mandaue City on Saturday, August 13.

The Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO 7) reported that personnel of Mandaue City Police Office's Station 4 and City Drug Enforcement Unit arrested a high-value target identified as 18-year old John Alex Villaraz in a buy-bust in Barangay Cabancalan.

Around 1:35 a.m. when the raiders carried out the operation that led to the arrest of Villaraz who was caught with 1,500 grams of shabu with a Standard Drug Price of P10.2 million.

In another operation in Barangay Tipolo, a 60-year-old man was arrested with 50 grams of shabu worth P340,000, the PRO 7 said.

Police identified the suspect as Danilo Bauri Canillo, a resident of Barangay Basak-San Nocolas, Cebu City.

The suspect was arrested around 2:45 a.m. at Sitio Panaghiusa, Barangay Tipolo, Mandaue City.

Brig. Gen. Roque Eduardo Vega, regional director of PRO 7, said the two operations were the result of the intensified intelligence efforts of MCPO led by its newly installed director, Col. Jeffrey Caballes.

"I laud the Mandaue police for the dedication demonstrated in our fight against criminality in Central Visayas, especially on illegal drugs,” said Vega.

“Let us continue what we are doing to attain a drug-free Cebu," added Vega.

The suspects will be charged with violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
