ILOILO CITY -- The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed five flood control projects in Aklan province.
“These new structures will benefit Aklanons during the rainy season. In particular, residents of low-lying communities residing along or near the rivers,” said DPWH-6 Regional Director Nerie Bueno.
It included two flood control projects in the capital of Kalibo town. With a funding of P151.7 million, the two structures are expected to provide protection to 6,000 residents of Barangays Tigayon and Mobo.
In Lezo town, a 564-lineal meter reinforced concrete revetment supported by steel sheet piling was constructed in Barangay Sta. Cruz Biga-a.
In Madalag town, the DPWH Aklan District Engineering Office had two projects worth P116.4 million, including the 594-lineal meter revetment wall in Barangay Guinatuan and a 288-lineal meter revetment wall in Barangay Poblacion.
The flood control projects are also seen to protect national roads from damages of massive flooding.
