Based on a 2018 study, the prevalence rate of vision impairment and blindness in the country is at about 1.98-percent, where eye issues mainly involve cataract, uncorrected error of refraction, glaucoma, and maculopathy/diabetic retinopathy.
Sadly, many Filipinos with eye problems end up not having their eyes checked for a variety of reasons, with financial as the most common. Many Filipinos still believe that medical procedures, even just a simple eye exam, is costly.
