Abalos orders BJMP to expedite digitization of PDL records


Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Sec. Benhur Abalos has ordered the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) to start the the digitization of all records of its Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) through the single carpeta system.

BJMP chief Director Allan Iral said they are initiating measures to expedite the digitization of PDL records nationwide.

“At present, all general records of PDL are already encoded due to the fact that PDL that are committed to our care are required to be encoded in the system immediately,” Iral said.

Since the first quarter of 2022, Iral explained that the BJMP had already started digitizing records of PDL such as the commitment order, information sheet and medical certificate.

“Aside from the module of PDL general records, PDL medical information, welfare and development programs availed, good conduct time allowances, and authorized visitors will also be uploaded in the system,” he added.

On Aug. 9, Abalos had his first command visit at the BJMP National Headquarters where he discussed with jail officials on what steps should be taken to further improve its service.

In the said meeting, Abalos recognized the BJMP officials for their efforts in maintaining good performance on its key deliverables on ensuring the safekeeping and development of PDLs under agency’s care.

He told the BJMP officials to maintain the excellent level of their service and to constantly monitor the PDLs’ health conditions to prevent the spread of infectious diseases such as tuberculosis and Covid-19.
