2 minors drown in fishpond in Pangasinan


URBIZTONDO, Pangasinan – Two minors drowned in a fishpond in Barangay Pasibi West here Tuesday, August 9.

Police identified the victims as Bryan Paragas, 11, and Aljay Frias, 11, both Grade 6 students and residents of Barangay Anambongan, Basista, this province.

Investigation disclosed that Bonifacio Paragas, Bryan’s father, went fishing with the two children at around 4:20 p.m.

After winding up his task, Bonifacio went to get his tricycle and saw the two children diving into the 10-foot deep fishpond even though they don’t know how to swim.

Bonifacio tried his best to save Bryan and Frias but failed.

Victims were given first aid by the responding Basista Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).

Bryan and Aljay were taken to different hospitals in San Carlos City, Pangasinan where they were declared dead.
