Caloocan City launches free Youth Sports Camp

The Caloocan City Sports Development and Recreation Office (SDRO) launched on Monday, Aug. 8, a free sports camp for the youth in the city.

The sports camp allows the youth, from ages eight to 15, to train and develop new skills in basketball, taekwondo, karate, and futsal (for 11-18 years old), chess, and swimming.

The activities are held in different covered courts and venues in North and South Caloocan.

SDRO Chief Dindo Simpao said the activity is in line with Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan’s advocacy to focus on programs for the youth.

“This is Mayor Along's way to give a sense of normalcy to our youth in Caloocan who have been quarantined inside their homes due to the restrictions implemented during the height of the pandemic," Simpao said.

"Sa ganitong pamamaraan po, umaasa ang lokal na pamahalaan na magiging mas aktibo ang mga kabataan and eventually, baka maka-discover pa tayo ng mga Olympians (This way, the local government hopes that the youth will be more active, and eventually, we might even discover Olympians)," he added.

The local government said that the registration for the activity is still ongoing. Residents can access the registration form through this link: bit.ly/CaloocanSports

"Sa mga magulang, sana’y i-guide niyo ang inyong mga anak para magparehistro nang sila’y may matutunan, makakilala ng kapwa nila kabataan, at mag-enjoy sa mga aktibidad na hatid ng programang ito (To the parents, I hope you will guide your children to register so that they can learn, meet their fellow youth, and enjoy the activities brought by this program)” Malapitan said.
