ZAMBOANGA CITY- Some P3.4-million worth of illegal drugs were intercepted at the Zamboanga International Airport (ZIA) by airport authorities on Monday, August 8.
A K-9 dog reportedly sat on the package at the cargo section upon inspection, prompting agents from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA-9) to open it.
PDEA-9 agents found a half kilo of shabu placed inside a plastic container and concealed beneath roasted coconut meat locally known as ‘bubok.’
The contraband was said to have originated from Basilan Province and is being shipped to Quezon City via a cargo forwarding company.
An inventory was conducted by agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-9 led by its chief Jury Rocamora with Zamboanga mayor John Dalipe, Barangay Captain Aimee Cabato, and airport officials and personnel.
This is the second interception of illegal drugs at the ZIA cargo section within a month’s time.
On July 5 this year, airport authorities intercepted some P210,000 worth of shabu hidden inside a package bound for Palawan.
PDEA-9 chief Rocamora said the recent discovery of illegal drugs was due to intensified monitoring of borders normally used for transshipment of the illegal cargo.
