SURPRISE! Miss Universe Colombia to accept contestants who are married with kids. Will MUPh follow suit?

Organizers of the Miss Universe Colombia beauty pageant made a game-changing decision when it announced that it will now allow married women with children to compete in the annual competition.

Translation:

"Miss Universe Colombia recently made an important announcement for all women who wish to participate in the beauty contest, through its official Instagram account, Miss Universe Colombia organization reported that it has made the decision to allow married women with children to participate in the event from the 72nd edition of the contest."

The new rule is expected to apply in 2023.

Will the Miss Universe Philippines organization follow suit? It remains to be seen.

In 2019, Miss Universe broke barriers when it accepted Miss Myanmar Swe Zin Htet, the first openly gay candidate.

"Zin Htet has no regrets about her decision to come out. “I feel like myself now that I’m open about being a lesbian,” she says in an interview with glamour.com. “I will work hard for the LGBTQ community to be accepted not only in my country, but across the world.”

At the Miss Universe Philippines pageant, Beatrice Luigi Gomez is the first openly bisexual woman contestant to win the competition. She also finished in the top 5 of the 71st Miss Universe pageant held in Israel.
