A 19-year-old psychology student, who wants to educate the public on ecological sustainability, was crowned Miss Philippines Earth 2022 during a competition held at Tag Resort in Coron, Palawan today, Saturday, Aug. 6.
Jenny Ramp, of Santa Ignacia, Tarlac, was crowned by outgoing Miss Philippines Earth 2021 Naelah Alshorbaji, who finished in the top 8 of the virtual Miss Earth pageant on Nov. 21, 2021.
Other winners were: Ryka Vina Tan, Legazpi City, Miss Philippines-Fire 2022; Jimena Tempra, Jassan, Misamis Oriental, Miss Philippines-Air 2022; Angel Santos, Trece Martires, Miss Philippines-Water 2022; and Nice Lampad, Bayugan City, Miss Philippines-EcoTourism 2022.
Ramp says she wants to become Miss Philippines Earth so that she can use this to her advantage in obtaining a bigger platform where she can encourage others to be as environmentally conscious as she is, striving to save the Earth.
"Growing up as a little girl I was always environmentally conscious, recycling whatever I could find in the house, always turning off the lights and unplugging anything I could find. I didn’t know why at such a young age I was so conscious, but now I see that it is because I’ve always had a heart so big for the Earth and nature," she adds.
Ramp also discusses her advocacy: to educate everyone about ecological sustainability.
"During the pandemic, we learned that keeping our world clean is vital to our survival. The pandemic made us realize that the earth really needed to breathe and now that life is slowly becoming how it was before the pandemic era, we should not forget to also take care of our home, the earth. By teaching people, especially the youth and the marginalized sector, I am sure we can be sustainable and choose greenways over polluting our home," she says.
Only the top 20 semifinalists of the Miss Philippines Earth 2022 went on to compete at the finals in Palawan.
Prior, the 20 girls were officially presented at Okada Manila. This is the 3rd time, the organizer of Miss Earth Philippines, Carousel Production, has chosen Okada Manila to host one of the major programs of MPE.
The 22nd edition of Miss Philippines Earth bears the thematic peg “ME Loves Fauna”, which puts emphasis on the importance of caring for animal life.
The theme aims to create awareness of how animal life, both wildlife and domestic, all essential members of the environment must be given proper care and attention especially as we are facing and experiencing a worldwide problem on the effects of climate change.
