The country's Covid-19 cases could peak by next month, an official of the Department of Health (DOH) said.

This is based on the latest projections of the state health agency on Covid-19 cases as well as occupancy in hospitals, said DOH Epidemiology Bureau Director Dr. Alethea De Guzman.

"Tayo’y may mga projections na nagsasabing pwedeng magpeak ang mga kaso (We have projections showing that cases may peak) this coming September," said De Guzman on Thursday, Aug. 4.

"Pwedeng magkaroon ng peak ng admissions (There is also a possibility that admissions may peak) September or October," she added.

De Guzman did not specify the figures on these latest projections, saying that DOH Officer-in-Charge Maria Rosario Vergeire will be the one to report this.

The country is currently experiencing a rise in Covid-19 cases. Last Aug. 2, Vergeire reported that the country’s average daily cases during the previous week was at 3,541.

Meanwhile, the DOH recorded 4,439 new coronavirus cases on Aug. 4, as shown in the Health department’s Covid-19 tracker.

Active cases nationwide stood at 34,213. Metro Manila was still listed with the most number of recorded cases in the past 14 days at 14,879.

It was followed by Calabarzon with 9,507; Central Luzon with 4,673; Western Visayas with 2,707; and Central Visayas with 2,061.

The Philippines' cumulative tally of confirmed Covid-19 cases has already reached 3,790,309, including 3,695,323 recoveries, and 60,773 deaths.
