GATTARAN, Cagayan – Four unexploded ordnance (UXO) described as Japanese cartridge 81 high explosive and vintage bomb were found in two separate locations in Gatarran town in this province on Tuesday, August 2.
The Cagayan Police Provincial Office (CPPO) reported Wednesday night that joint personnel of Gattaran Police Station led by its chief, Major Ronald M Balod, Cagayan Provincial Explosive Ordnance Device (EOD) and Canine Unit (k9 Unit) led by Lieutenant Danilo Belnas and 2nd Maneuver Force Platoon, 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company carefully did the retrieval operation at around 5:30 p.m. in a vacant lot in Brgy Centro Sur.
The vacant lot where the four UXO were found is said to be owned by a certain Honesto Buenio.
Also reported was the discovery of a vintage bomb in an abandoned house in Zone 2, Brgy. Takiki, Gattaran, Cagayan.
The vintage bomb was identified as 100 pounds general purpose bomb with a length of more or less 60 centimeters and a diameter of more or less 20 centimeters.
Like the four UXO, the vintage bomb was rusty.
A certain Visitacion Molina, a resident of Brgy. Takiki, Gattaran, Cagayan personally reported to Gattaran PS that she discovered a vintage bomb in the abandoned house in their barangay.
Authorities immediately dispatched a team explosive ordnance disposal and K9 based at CPPO to provide immediate technical assistance.
The discovered UXO and vintage bomb are now in the custody of Cagayan Provincial EOD and K9 Unit for proper disposition, said Investigator on case-Staff Master Seargeant Edgar E. Mandac.
