A day after the concert, the company hired to construct stage structures at Psy’s concert was dismantling the set when the accident happened.

According to the Korean police, the man from Mongolia in his 20s, who was hired by the company, was dismantling a lighting tower at the stadium when he fell 15 meters down at around 3:53 p.m. He was taken to a hospital where he died.

P-Nation, Psy’s agency, issued a statement about the foreign worker’s death.

“First of all, our hearts are heavy to deliver the said news. At 3:50 pm on July 31, an outsourced staff member unfortunately lost his life at Gangneung Stadium in Gangwon-do,” the agency said.

It added, “The deceased was a man in his 20s of Mongolian nationality who was hired by subcontractor “A” to produce stage structures. We express our sincere condolences to the deceased who passed away in an unfortunate accident. We also offer our deepest condolences to his family.”

“P-Nation knows all too well the efforts of the staff who are sweating behind the scenes, so this accident is even more heartbreaking. We will do our best to take care of the deceased's last path. In addition, we will work responsibly to come up with countermeasures and to prevent this from happening again,” it said.

A civic group in Gangneung called on authorities to investigate the accident, saying the demolition work at the stadium was carried out despite bad weather. They also blamed Gangneung City and P-Nation for the worker’s death.
