Fire hits homes in Manila; patients in nearby hospital evacuated


A fire hit a residential area in Fugoso Street, Sta. Cruz, Manila on Tuesday, Aug. 2 forcing a nearby hospital to evacuate its patients, most of them mothers who just gave birth.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the fire was raised to first alarm at around 1:05 p.m. and went up to second alarm at around 1:08 p.m.

The BFP said the fire status was raised to third alarm at around 1:21 p.m. and then to 4th-5th alarm at around 1:35 p.m.

The fire was delared under control at around 2:54 p.m. It was extingushed at around 3:23 p.m.

As of this writing, no injuries have been reported.

In the nearby Dr. Jose Fabella Memorial Hospital, a maternal and newborn tertiary hospital located in Sta. Cruz, nurses helped evacuate patients from the third floor through the fire exit.

Mothers were seen carrying their newborn babies to safety.
