An official of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) described the late former president Fidel V. Ramos as one of the best leaders of the country.

"He is arguably one of the best leaders our country had," Fr. Jerome Secillano, executive secretary of the CBCP Public Affairs Commission, said in an interview Monday, August 1.

Although FVR had his brushes with the church especially when he pushed for charter change, he said, he showed "graciousness and did not insist on it."

Secillano said Ramos' ability to reach consensus was more pronounced as he tried to "weather the most challenging of times, economic wise, for our country, by getting everyone on board to achieve a greater Philippines."

Ramos died on Sunday, July 31, at the age of 94.
