Lingayen Mayor Bataoil mourns passing of FVR

LINGAYEN, Pangasinan – Mayor Leopoldo Bataoil here mourned the death of former President Fidel V. Ramos Sunday, July 31, at the age of 94 at the Makati Medical Center.

Bataoil extended his condolences to the family of the former Chief Executive from 1992 to 1998.

“On behalf of the people of Lingayen, I extend our deepest sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of the former President of the Republic of the Philippines and fellow Pangasinense, Hon. Fidel V. Ramos (FVR),” Bataoil said.

He noted that he and Ramos share some things in common – both of them were born here and were both part of the uniformed service.

“I was with the PNP, he was with the Philippine Army,” Bataoil said.

They also entered politics.

“In fact, President FVR is one of the people I look up to. He stands as our second parent, our godfather during our wedding with my wife, Gina Liza M. Bataoil. His meaningful and countless contributions in the selfless pursuit of public service cannot be denied. His untimely demise is a grief to many, such as in the capital town of Pangasinan where he was born,” Bataoil added.

Bataoil urged prayers for the Ramos family and that they be showered with concern, comfort, and courage to face the coming days.

“May we also keep on praying for the eternal repose of the soul of our brother, friend, and fellow Lingkod Bayan – President FVR.”

The province of Pangasinan also mourned the passing of Ramos.

In a statement posted on Facebook, the provincial government said:

“Ang Pamahalaang Lalawigan ng Pangasinan ay nakikidalamhati sa pagpanaw ni dating Pangulong Fidel V. Ramos na isang Pangasinense. Ang kanyang napagtagumpayan bilang pinuno ng bansa at mataas na opisyal ng Armed Forces of the Philippines ay nagbigay karangalan sa ating bansa at sa ating lalawigan. Snappy salute to you, Sir!
