“I am profoundly shocked to learn of the passing of former President Fidel V. Ramos. I extend my deepest condolences to the family of my predecessor who will be remembered as one of the most effective presidents in our nation's history,” Estrada said on Sunday, July 31.

Ramos was the 12th President of the Philippines; his term began in June 1992 until June 1998. After him was Estrada, 13th President of the Philippines who served from 1998 to 2001.

“A military man by training and an engineer and a builder by background, he brought to the presidency a different view of how problems should be dealt with, overcoming them in the most pragmatic, cost-effective, and fastest way,” Estrada recalled.

“I mourn the loss of our former president whose many accomplishments will continue to inspire us,” the ex-Chief Executive lamented.

Ramos, at 94-years of age, passed away due to complications from Covid-19 on Sunday afternoon, July 31.
