"On behalf of the U.S. Embassy community, I offer my heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of former Philippine President Fidel V. Ramos and the people of the Philippines," Carlson said Sunday night, July 31.

"We will always remember his contributions to the U.S.-Philippines bilateral relationship," the ambassador added.

Ramos passed away at the age of 94.

The US Embassy also remembered Ramos as a US Military Academy graduate.

Ramos, who is also known for his initials FVR, served as the country’s 12th president from 1992 to 1998.

Prior to his presidency, he served as chief of staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and became the Secretary of National Defense two years later.
