"With deepest sympathy, I join a grateful nation in sharing our grief with the family of former president Fidel V. Ramos who died today," Go said in a Facebook post, Sunday, July 31.

The 12th President of the Philippines succumbed to complications wrought by Covid-19 on July 31. He was 94 when he passed.

Go cited the economic boom under Ramos’ administration. It was during his presidency that the Philippines’ economy was dubbed the “Tiger Cub of Asia.”

"FVR, as he is fondly called, paved the way for our global competitiveness under his Philippines 2000 platform. The many success stories under his administration become relevant again as we gradually emerge from the pandemic and regain our position in the regional economic arena,” he said in his tribute to the late former President.

“May the Almighty God—to whom we all belong—grant him eternal rest. Thank you, sir, and a final salute to you—a soldier, a gentleman and once father of our nation!” the Senator concluded.
