Police intercept sacks of explosives off Zamboanga City

ZAMBOANGA CITY – Police intercepted sacks of explosives off the coast of Barangay Talon-Talon here at dawn Friday, July 29.

Personnel of the 2nd Zamboanga City Mobile Force Company were conducting seaborne patrol on the coast of Sitio Layag-Layag, Barangay Talon-Talon when they spotted a motorized boat locally known as “jungkung.”

While approaching the boat, its crew jumped overboard and swam towards the coastline.

Police found 13 sacks of ammonium nitrate on board the boat.

The boat’s crew members escaped capture by authorities.

Authorities dragged the motorboat towards the coastline and turned over its cargo to the Explosives Ordnance Disposal Unit.

Police are investigating the incident.
