PH posts over 4,000 new Covid-19 infections, active cases breach 32,000

The number of new Covid-19 cases in the Philippines hit over 4,000 on Friday, July 29.

Department of Health's (DOH) Covid-19 tracker showed that 4,127 more people contracted the viral disease.

At present, the total number of active Covid-19 cases nationwide is at 32,637.

Metro Manila still remains as the top region with the most number of new infections in the recent 14 days at 13,461. It was followed by Calabarzon with 8,773; Central Luzon with 4,099; Western Visayas with 2,532; and Central Visayas with 1,684.

On July 26, the DOH warned the public that daily cases could reach as high as 19,000.

“Based on our latest projections and our current case trends, the number of detected cases at the national level are projected to be on a continuous uptrend, with an estimated 19,306 cases reported daily by August 31,” it then said.

“However, with the improvement of vaccination and booster rates and MPHS (minimum public health standards) compliance, case increase may be slower and more controlled at about 6,194 to 8,346 cases by the end of August,” it added.

The running tally of cases in the country is at 3,768,474, wherein 3,675,119 people have recovered. However, 60,718 died.
