Father of Ateneo gunman shot dead outside house in Basilan

The 69-year-old father of Ateneo murder suspect Dr. Chao Tiao Yumol was shot dead outside his house in Lamitan City, Basilan at 6:55 a.m., Friday, July 29.

Police Col. Tadzhael Managola, Lamitan police officer-in-charge, identified the victim Roland “Bobong” Yumol, a retired policeman.

Yumol was riding his motorcycle outside his residence on Rizal St., Barangay Maganda when he was shot by one of two suspects riding tandem on a motorcycle.

The victim sustained at least four bullet wounds and was brought to the Lamitan District Hospital where he was declared dead on arrival by Dr. Alfonso L. Bravo.

Police found a .45 caliber pistol in the crime scene.

Police found no witnesses who could provide information on the shooting.

Bobong Yumol is the father of Dr. Chao Tiao Yumol, who allegedly shot dead former Lamitan Mayor Rose Furigay, his executive assistant Victor Capistrano, and security guard Jeneven Bandiola at the Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City last Sunday.

Police are conducting hot pursuit operation for the arrest of the killers.
