ZAMBOANGA CITY – A senior citizen who bolted the San Ramon Penal Colony here earlier this week was rescued on a boat in the sea off Sirawai, Zamboanga del Norte Thursday, July 28.
Police Major Shellamie Chang, Police Regional Office-9 public information officer, identified the escapee as Winnie Encarnacion Magusara, 69, of Barangay Mabini, Surabay, Zamboanga Sibugay.
Police and barangay tanods were conducting coastal patrol in the waters off Cawit-Cawit when they spotted and rescued an old man on board a small boat.
The man turned out to be Magusara, a prisoner who escaped from the San Ramon Penal Colony in Barangay Talisayan here last Wednesday.
He was convicted of murder and frustrated murder.
The suspect was a trustee and working as maintenance personnel on the beach when he bolted towards the shoreline and escaped on board a small boat.
Magusara was turned over to the Bureau of Corrections in this city after he was taken into custody by the Sirawai police.
