Vigan City mayor orders structural integrity check of buildings; liquor ban up in Bantay


Vigan City, Ilocos Sur Mayor Jose “Bonito” Singson Jr. has ordered private establishments to check and ensure the structural integrity of their buildings following the magnitude-7 earthquake Wednesday, July 27.

Singson, in Executive Order No. 7, Series of 2022, issued Wednesday, said there is a need to evaluate the structural integrity of all buildings, offices, and structures in Vigan after the earthquake.

He stated that structurally compromised buildings should not be reoccupied unless certified safe by structural engineers.

Meanwhile, in nearby Bantay, Ilocos Sur, Mayor Samuel Parilla has imposed a liquor ban to ensure peace and order and safety of residents in the aftermath of the earthquake.

Parilla issued Executive Order No. 93, Series of 2022 banning the sale, distribution, and consumption of intoxicating beverages such as beer and wines.

The liquor ban took effect Wednesday and shall remain in effect until further notice.

Parilla authorized police and barangay chairmen to take violators into custody until they sober up.

Business establishments violating the order face revocation or suspension of their licenses.
