The number of aftershocks following the destructive magnitude 7.0 quake on Wednesday, July 27, has climbed to 849, said state seismologists on Thursday morning, July 27.
Of the 849 aftershocks as of 1 p.m., 188 were plotted while 24 were felt, said the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The quake, which was initially reported with a magnitude measuring 7.3 and was later downgraded to 7.0, occurred three kilometers northwest of Tayum, Abra around 8:43 a.m. on Wednesday.
Latest data from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) revealed that at least five persons have died following this destructive quake.
