Vice President Sara Duterte went beyond her scheduled activities on Monday, July 25, the day of President Marcos’ first State of the Nation Address (SONA), to meet administration supporters holding a street concert near the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City.
Instead of joining first the post-SONA cocktails, Duterte chose to see the pro-Marcos groups that gathered along IBP Road at the nearby Batasang Pambansa, home of the House of the Representatives.
She was flanked by her security detail when she went on stage shortly after the Chief Executive delivered his first SONA.
"Sana, magtulong-tulong tayo sa pagpapatupad ng lahat ng nilatag ng Pangulo ng ating bansa (Hopefully, we will be united in executing the plans outlined by the President of our country)," she said.
The Vice President made the call before the crowd attending the "Kilos Suporta para sa Pagbangon at Pagkakaisa - PBBM SONA” concert.
During the event, she also conveyed her gratitude to those who backed the Marcos-Duterte ticket in the last May 9 national polls.
The tandem won by landslide after they got more than 30 million votes each, the biggest mandate so far in recent Philippine elections.
"Thank you for supporting PBBM in his State of the Nation Address. And thank you for helping the BBM-Sara UniTeam in the last elections," Duterte said in her brief speech.
"We are all praying that we won't fail in our recovery efforts for our country," she added.
Among the priority programs cited by President Marcos in his SONA include economic recovery efforts and health systems capacity-building amid the persisting threat of Covid-19.
He also vowed to prioritize projects in agriculture, infrastructure, education, internet connectivity, arts and culture, among others.
