ZAMBOANGA CITY – Officials in Basilan condemned the horrific shooting at the Ateneo de Manila University in Quezon City last Sunday in which former Lamitan City, Basilan Mayor Rose Furigay, her assistant Victor Capistrano, and security guard Jeneven Bandiola were killed.
Isabela City Mayor Sitti Djalia Turabin-Hataman called on authorities to conduct an investigation into the incident.
“This senseless and unjustified killing is unimaginable in a civilized society and should be given the government’s utmost attention in order to bring to justice the perpetrator or perpetrators. Therefore, we call on our law enforcement agencies to immediately conduct a comprehensive and swift investigation into this deplorable act of violence,” said Mayor Hataman in her post.
Hataman’s husband, Basilan Rep. Mujiv Hataman, shared the sentiments of his wife and urged the early prosecution of the suspect, Dr. Chao-Tiao Yumol, 38, a resident of Basilan.
“I urge the authorities to prosecute the perpetrator of this dastardly crime to the full extent of the law,” said Rep. Hataman.
Officials extended their condolences to the Furigay family headed by Lamitan Mayor Roderick Furigay.
They also praised the Mayor Furigay’s accomplishments and several awards, recognition, and achievements during her term as mayor.
