Spectrum completes solar energization of 5 PLDT business centers

Spectrum, a subsidiary of Manila Electric Company (Meralco), has completed the energization of solar facilities that will power up at least five business centers of Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) that will save the telecommunications giant P2.2 million in annual electricity cost in its Visayas operation.

The solar rooftop installations have aggregate capacity of 431.21 kilowatt-peak (kWp) – and these covered the PLDT offices in La Paz in Iloilo; Mandaue City in Cebu; Roxas City in Capiz; Cebu City; and Bacolod City in Negros Occidental.

“These projects are expected to generate approximately 591,550 kWh (kilowatt-hours) of clean energy per year,” Spectrum noted, emphasizing that such move is anchored on the telecom firm’s all-inclusive sustainability agenda.

The initiative to use solar power for its business centers in Visayas forms part of PLDT’s decarbonization roadmap that aims to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by around 40-percent by 2030, Spectrum indicated.

By shifting energy usage to solar, the Meralco subsidiary calculated that PLDT would be able to generate savings of roughly P2.2 million on an annual basis.

On the sphere of carbon footprints reduction, the overall impact would redound to 421 metric tons of avoided emissions -- which essentially is equivalent to 845,000 trees planted within a span of 20 years or 1,678,262 kilometers reduced in vehicle travel per year.

Patrick Henry T. Panlilio, chief operating officer of Spectrum, said “partnering with PLDT was an opportunity for us to enable the company to operate efficiently and sustainably and realize their goal to help preserve the environment.”

He qualified that “through Spectrum’s safe, reliable and end-to-end solar solutions, we empower customers to manage their electricity expenses at times when energy prices are volatile.”

Panlilio added “with sustainability at the core of our operations, we make it possible for our partners to have a sustainable energy source.”

He expounded “we are here to harness the potential of solar energy in helping customers, communities, and the country in realizing our shared goal of taking care of our environment for the future generations.”

Spectrum offers tailor-fit solutions for industrial, commercial, and residential customers – and that comes with in-depth understanding of energy consumption behaviors and strategic partnerships with world-class technology partners.
