Barangay official involved in drugs dies after exchanging fire with lawmen in Tarlac


CAMP OLIVAS, City of San Fernando, Pampanga -- A barangay councilor in Tarlac City and listed as top priority regional high value individual died during an armed encounter with authorities on Saturday morning, July 23, in Tarlac.

Frank Martin Bonus of Brgy. San Sebastian, Tarlac City, exchanged gun fires with joint operatives of Station Drug Enforcement Unit, Tarlac City Police Station and other law enforcement units that were conducting a buy-bust operation along Bypass Road at Brgy. Ungot, Tarlac City, Tarlac.

Bonus had sensed that he was dealing with lawmen, prompting him to fire his weapon toward the raiders.

The police officers returned fire which resulted in the suspect’s instantaneous death.

Recovered at the crime scene were one cal. 9mm Armscor with inserted magazine and live ammunition; four empty cartridge cases; four pieces of heat-sealed plastic sachets containing shabu, two pieces of marked P1,000 bills.

Brigadier General Matthew P. Baccay, Regional Director of Police Regional Office 3 said the Central Luzon Cops will sustain their anti-drug operations in the coming days to eradicate, if not, stop the proliferation of illegal drugs in the region.
