Ifugao cops extend cash assistance to Banaue flash floods victims


LAGAWE, Ifugao -- Aside from organizing a brigade from their ranks to clean up the thick mud carried by floods in Banaue town, personnel of the Ifugao Provincial Police Office also united to contribute cash assistance for the victims of the flash-floods and landslides.

Under the ongoing ‘Oplan Binnadang,’ Col. James Mangili, provincial director, personally handed over the cash donation of P197,700.77 to Banaue Mayor Joel Bungalon, on July 18.

Binnadang is a Kankana-ey term for cooperation or ‘bayanihan’ in Tagalog,’ which refers to the spirit of communal unity, work and cooperation to achieve a particular goal.

According to Lt. Lorna Butac, IPPO information officer, the police agreed to contribute to help the victims whose houses were damaged in landslides caused by flash-floods that started on July 7 and continue to be experienced whenever heavy rains fall.

Aside from cash assistance, Mangili also donated 21 pairs of rain boots to the municipal government to be used by employees who continue to conduct clearing operations.

Butac said the Kabataan Kontra Droga at Terorismo (KKDAT) Ifugao Chapter also donated 31 bags of assorted vegetables from their member in Tinoc town and collected a monetary donation in the amount of P10,750 as a contribution for the ‘Oplan Sagip Kapamilya,’ a fund drive conducted by the Youth Mobile Force Cordillera in partnership with Regional Mobile Force Battalion-15, Sangguniang Kabataan Ifugao and KKDAT Ifugao Chapter, for the victims of the tragedy.
