ZAMBOANGA CITY – A female Commission on Election officer was shot dead by an unidentified assailant in Isabela City, Basilan at around 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 19.
The victim was identified as Ruayna Edris Sayyadi, election officer of Albarka Municipality in Basilan province.
Sayyadi was reportedly outside the Albarka satellite office in Barangay Doña Ramona, Isabela City when the gunman shot her in the back.
The suspect escaped on board a motorcycle.
Sayyadi was declared dead on arrival at the Basilan Community Hospital.
Atty. Roberto dela Peña, Provincial Election Supervisor, ordered all election officers in Basilan to implement strict security measures to prevent becoming victims of violence themselves.
As of this writing, the police were conducting pursuit operations against Sayyadi’s killer.
