Beauty Gonzalez looks back on showbiz beginnings

Beauty Gonzalez is among today's busiest actresses. But did you know she didn't really want to be one?

In an interview with Toni Gonzaga, the 31-year-old star revealed it was her mother who actually pushed her to join show business via the reality show "Pinoy Big Brother (PBB)."

She told director Laurenti Dyogi this when she auditioned for the show in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

Beauty recalled telling him, "Mommy ko gustong sumali... Ayaw niya akong mag-asawa ng cheap dito."

She ended up finishing fourth behind Ejay Falcon, Robi Domingo and Nicole Uysiuseng.

After her "PBB" stint, she appeared in the drama "Iisa Pa Lamang."

Many more followed.

"Hirap nung una, ako yung laging 'friend...' Mahirap lang kasi minsan nakatayo ka lang du'n ta's wala kang ginagawa. Kung anong ginagawa ng bida, susunod ka lang," she told Toni.

To add to her screen time, Beauty would go on to curry favor with show writers, going on to pay for their snacks if they would write more lines for her character.

She related, "Nililibre ko yung mga writers! 'Dagdagan mo naman yung linya ko diyan. I want to have life. Dagdagan mo yung linya,' 'pag sinabi ng bida 'Tara,' ako naman: 'Let's go!' Para pu-man up naman 'yung camera sa akin.'"

But Beauty is grateful for those early years, deeming it her "workshop."

"Du'n ako natuto paano umarte..."
