Jail guard arrested in Laguna buy-bust, not BJMP member

The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) official clarified on Saturday, July 16 , hat the jail guard who was arrested in a buy-bust in Sta. Cruz, Laguna is not a member of the agency.

BJMP spokesperson Supt. Xavier Solda made the clarification after a news report Eugene Bactad, 35, of Sitio 5,  Barangay Bagumbayan is a BJMP member.

Solda said that while Bactad maybe a jail guard, it does not necessarily mean that he is a BJMP member since not all corrections facility is under the bureau.

Solda noted that the BJMP caters to the PDLs whose cases remained unresolved while the BUCOR supervises the convicted inmates.

In Bactad’s case, Solda said the suspect is a jail guard assigned at the Laguna Provincial Jail and ‘not with the BJMP’ as mentioned in a news report.

On July 14, authorities seized three sachets of suspected shabu weighing 10 grams with an estimated value of P68,000 from Bactad who was considered a high value target in the illegal drug trade.

The operation was carried out by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and the local police led by Pol. Lt. Col. Paterno Domondon Jr. of the Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU). (Chito A. Chavez)
