Fitness instructor held for stealing credit cards in QC gym

Police arrested a fitness instructor who allegedly stole credit cards in a gym in Quezon City on Wednesday, July 13.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Kamuning Station (PS 10) identified the suspect as Mr. Ramos, 27, a resident of Manila.

According to the police report, the suspect took two credit cards and driver’s license of the victim while in a gym on West Avenue in QC on Wednesday.

The victim, a 26-year-old businessman, told Manila Bulletin that he learned his items were stolen after he received a message from the bank to confirm the purchase of four cellphones and a tablet worth P175,000 at around 4:20 p.m. on the same day. He declined the said transaction.

He went to the mall where the purchase attempt happened. However, he failed to locate the suspect.

The victim then proceeded to a coffee shop on Timog Ave. after he received another notification that his card is being used.

He said that the barista of the coffee shop pointed to the suspect who immediately ran.

The victim, along with the security guard of the shop, an off-duty police officer and some bystanders in the area, chased and cornered Ramos, leading to his arrest and the recovery of the stolen items.

According to the victim, the suspect took his credit cards and driver’s license from his bag kept in a gym locker while he was doing workout.

Police learned that the suspect also used the credit cards to purchase clothes worth around P14,000.

Ramos will be charged with theft and violation of Republic Act 8484 (Access Device Law), police said.
