Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chairman Popoy De Vera on Wednesday, July 13, welcomed the pronouncement of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. To review the country’s curriculum to address skills and jobs mismatch among graduates.
In a virtual presser on the lifting of the moratorium on Nursing programs, De Vera said that the Commission “fully supports the statement and the desire of President Marcos to review the curriculum because we have been reviewing it consistently.”
CHED, De Vera said, has been reviewing the tertiary curriculum for the past two years.
“The Commission thanks President Marcos for highlighting the need to continuously visit and revise the curriculum,” he added.
De Vera noted that reviewing the curriculum is crucial in addressing the existing and emerging challenges related to skills and jobs mismatch among the graduates. “You cannot have a curriculum that is not revised because you will be left behind,” he said.
He explained that there are also degree programs and courses that have “significant shifts” in the market, thus, a continuous review of the curriculum is needed.
Recognizing that Filipino students would be left behind if the curriculum is not aligned with new demands, De Vera said that CHED has been tapping representatives from various industries and the government to form technical panels that would lead the review of different degree programs.
