Malacanang cites BIR for solving 100% complaints

The Malacanan Complaints Center has cited the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for solving 100 percent of grievances it referred to the agency in the first five months of 2022.

"We are pleased to inform you that the 570 citizens' concerns referred to your office as of May 31, 2022 were acted upon," Director Bernadette B. Casinabe of the 8888 citizens' complaint center told former BIR Commissioner Caesar R. Dulay in a letter.

The Duterte administration set up the office early in his term to accept complaints from all sectors mostly on red tape and corruption involving government workers.

Most of the grievances sent to the BIR by the 8888 concerned delay in the release of registration papers and one-time transactions (ONETT)

Tax officials explained that ONETT documents could not be released within three days upon receipt as ordered by Malacanang due to audit requirements.

Dulay referred graft cases to appropriate BIR offices for investigation and verification hearings.

It is not known if President Bong Bong Marcos would continue the activities of the complaints office as he already scrapped or reorganized certain agencies attached to Malacanang like the Presidential Anti-Corruption Commission.
