Abalos orders PNP to step up drive vs loose guns

Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Benjamin ‘Benhur’ Abalos Jr. has ordered the Philippine National Police (PNP) to intensify the campaign to account loose firearms in the country.

Abalos explained that loose firearms are usually being used for criminal activities.

“At the end of the day what is important here is we minimize crimes hindi lamang (not only) of course in the drug war,’’ Abalos said.

Abalos reminded specifically that all arrests made by the police officers should in accordance with the Constitution.

He also vowed to protect policemen from harassment cases but warned that he would take the lead in running after the bad eggs that have tarnished the image of the police force.

Abalos said he would ensure that legal assistance would be provided to police officers who would be slapped with job-related cases.
