9 hurt in 2 QC road accidents

Nine people, including a two-year old boy, were injured in two road accidents in Quezon City Tuesday afternoon, July 12, and Wednesday morning, July 13.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Traffic Enforcement Unit (DTEU) Sector 1 said the first incident involving a delivery van, an ambulance, and a motorcycle occurred at an intersection in Barangay Lourdes, Quezon City.

Police said that Juan Paolo Marcelino, 28, the driver of the private ambulance, and his companion, Jeremy Dela Cruz, 20, were travelling along Cordillera St. heading to Maria Clara St. at around 1:55 p.m. on Tuesday.

Upon reaching the intersection of Cordillera and Cuenco Streets, the front portion of the ambulance suddenly bumped the right side of a container van driven by Gilbert Bilar, 31, a resident of Cavite.

The impact pushed the two vehicles, hitting the motorcycle of Argie Almazan, 31, who came from the opposite lane of Cuenco St.

Police said that Almazan was riding with his wife, Neslie Almazan, 26, and their two-year-old son.

Staff Sgt. Jayson Gutierrez of the DTEU Sector 1, investigator of the case, told Manila Bulletin that all the persons involved in the accident sustained minor wounds.

Marcelino, Dela Cruz, Almazan, his wife and son were rushed to the East Avenue Medical Center for medical treatment.

Meanwhile, another ambulance figured in an accident along Quezon Ave. at around 6:05 a.m. on Wednesday. Three persons sustained multiple injuries.

According to the DTEU Sector 1 report, the driver of the ambulance, Luis Liya, 57, of Paranaque City, crossed the thoroughfare towards Welcome Rotonda.

Upon reaching the corner of Quezon Ave. and Examiner St., the right portion of the ambulance was hit by a van driven by Larry Onguda, 45.

The ambulance then crashed into the concrete fence of a center island in the area.

Liya and the passengers of the van -- Ricky Santos, 34, and Lorna Bagauisan, 23  -- sustained multiple injuries and were given immediate medical attention.

Police said that both accidents are still under investigation.
