Oil price rollback not enough, says Gabriela

The oil price rollbacks that took effect on Tuesday, July 12, are not enough; as the prices of diesel and gasoline must be lowered to the P50 and P63-level, said Gabriela Women’s Party-list Rep. Arlene Brosas in a statement on the same day.

On July 12, the prices for diesel products, gasoline products, and kerosene products were rolled back by P6.10, P5.70, and P6.30 per liter, respectively.

“Higit pa sa P6.10 kada litro ang dapat na maging rollback sa presyo ng diesel dahil sa sunud-sunod na taas-presyo ng langis mula pa noong Enero gamit ang palusot na Russia-Ukraine crisis (The rollback of diesel prices should have been greater than P6.10 per liter to counter the continuous rise in prices of oil since January, using the Russia-Ukraine crisis as an excuse),” Brosas said on July 1.

“Dapat na ibaba sa P50/ litro ang presyo ng diesel at P63/ litro ang presyo ng gasolina dahil ito ang antas ng presyo ng langis sa pagsisimula ng taon (Prices should be reduced to P50 per liter for diesel and P63 per liter for gasoline as these were the prices of oil during the start of the year),” she continued.

The Gabriela solon then underscored her earlier proposal to suspend the excise tax and value added tax (VAT) imposed on oil products, which she called for in her House Bill (HB) 400.
